Following confirmation that he purchased his first Sydney restaurant site in June, George Calombaris has now purchased a second in Surry Hills.

Located right next door to his first Sydney purchase on the corner of Albion and Mary Street, Calombaris together with his Made Establishment business partner, George Sykiotis, are planning to open what is rumoured to be a combination of the popular Gazi and Jimmy Grants restaurants.

“We did a site visit a few weeks ago and noticed next door was for sale so purchased [it],” a spokesperson for Made Establishment told Good Food.

“It will be an entirely new concept that we bring to Sydney. We’re still defining what that will be, but it will be new, and it will be Greek.”

Earlier this month it was announced that the property that holds George Calombaris’ famed Melbourne restaurants, Gazi and The Press Club had been sold to an offshore investor for $8.61 million.

Located on the corner of Exhibition and Flinders street in Melbourne’s CBD, the property was sold to Singaporean-based Keppel REIT Management Limited which successfully outbid a number of local and offshore parties.

Both Gazi and The Press Club will continue to be operated under the Made Establishment umbrella, together with its other Melbourne restaurants: The Hellenic Republic Lygon Street, Brunswick East and Cotham Road, Kew.
