Results from industry's most extensive survey to be released at RLS
The key issues affecting the profitability of the foodservice industry will be revealed in the Eating Out in Australia report.

The Restaurant Leaders Summit, taking place on 26 September, will feature the release of the first ever ‘Eating out in Australia’ market analysis report. It is based on two surveys, one of over 1,000 consumers and another of over 1,000 venues, including restaurants, cafes and coffee shops, fast food outlets, pubs and clubs.

“We believe this is the biggest market analysis project of its kind ever undertaken in Australia,” said project manager Graeme Philipson, who will be presenting key findings from the research at the event.

“There have been small surveys, but no-one has ever attempted to present an overall picture of the entire eating out industry, which is worth tens of billions of dollars a year.”

The report will analyse the size and structure of the industry, broken down by sector and state, with a detailed market sizing. Its analysis is centred around 10 major industry issues, the most important of which is staffing. Others include the rise of fast casual, the delivery boom, financial pressures, and the healthy food fad.

A ‘State of the Industry’ report will be released at the Summit, with more detailed findings available in October.

Restaurant Leaders Summit, which will be held at Doltone House in Sydney, is a one day conference for leading chefs, restaurant operators and senior managers, sharing valuable insight into business best practice. The day will comprise a series of presentations, panel discussion and Q&A sessions with industry leaders, with topics ranging from social media, recruitment and funding expansion to financing and the rise of fast casual dining.
