Jason Atherton’s Kensington Street Social, which opened in Sydney earlier this year, has taken out the Hotel Restaurant of the Year award at the 2016 HM Awards.

The winners of the 2016 HM Awards for Hotel and Accommodation Excellence were named in front of 700 attendees on 2 September at a gala event at Sydney Town Hall.

Now in its14th year, the awards recognise the accommodation industry’s finest staff, properties, brands and chains across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. The night also praises a number of the industry’s best restaurants and chefs.

This year, the Hotel Bar award went to joint winners, Gilt Lounge, QT Sydney and The Clare Bar, in The Old Clare Hotel, Sydney. Highly Commended went to the Emporium Hotel Cocktail Bar in the Emporium Hotel in Brisbane.

The Hotel Restaurant award went to Kensington Street Social also located within The Old Clare Hotel, and Highly Commended awards were presented to Bentley Restaurant and Bar in the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel, Sydney, and Long Pavilion, qualia, on Hamilton Island, Queensland.

Anna Polyviou, pastry chef at Sydney’s Shangri La and Laurent Xavier from Pan Pacific Perth shared the Hotel Chef of the Year award. Vanessa Grace from Sails in the Desert, Yulura, Northern Territory, was Highly Commended.

“The HM Awards for Hotel and Accommodation Excellence have once again recognised the finest people, departments and properties across Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific,” said HM Awards founder and HM Magazine Editor-In-Chief, James Wilkinson.

“The accommodation industry in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific is performing very well across the board at present and it was again a privilege to acknowledge and reward some brilliant and talented people, exceptional teams and outstanding properties across the region.”
