Intermedia's inaugural Eating Out in Australia industry report assessed the impact that staff turnover and recruitment have on hospitality businesses, and the findings were, sadly, not surprising.
The survey asked an unprompted open ended question – “What are your three biggest staffing challenges?” Almost 20 percent of all responses had to do with concerns over the work ethic of many staff members. Second (18.1 percent) was the related issue of the low knowledge and skill levels of staff. Recruitment (16.9 percent) was rated more of a concern than retention (10 percent), though both were seen as major challenges.
Good quality staff who will go the distance are hard to come by.
