Offering house made croissants, pastries and sweet dishes as well as Korean influenced savoury flavours, The Crux & Co has opened in south Melbourne.

The newest concept from Kevin Li, the brains behind Lights in the Attic and 3Lives, The Crux & Co is a 110 seat caf and patisserie located on the ground floor of The Emerald Apartment on Albert Road.

The menu includes flaky pastries, tarts and cakes as well as more savoury items including the bisque benedict with tiger prawns, poached eggs and a lobster bisque hollandaise served in a squid ink roll; French toast served with mixed berries, nuts, natural honeycomb, mascarpone and vanilla fairy floss; and Scotch quail egg accompanied by arrancini and falafel on top of a potato rosti with a mixed bean and chilli concasse.

Heading up the pastry kitchen is the ex-production head pastry chef of Brunetti, Louise MK Lee, and Oggie Choi of Lights in the Attic is on board as the executive chef. Running the floor is James Julian, who’s previously worked at Melbourne locations including Chingon, Two Birds One Stone, and Addict Food & Coffee.

Working with Five Senses Coffee, head baristas Yutaro Mitsuyoshi (ex-head barista of Addict Coffee & Food, and Two Birds One Stone) and Ratchanon Theppabutra (ex-head barista of Manchester Press) are creating a ‘wine by the glass’ concept for its coffee offering.

A range of coffees will be featured, including single origin espressos and rotating, micro lot filter brews.
