Restaurant listing and review platform, Yelp has used their in-house data team to come up with a list of Australia’s most disproportionately popular dishes and cuisines.

Yelp compiled the data by calculating the percentage of total restaurants each dish/ or cuisine represented in a given city, then compared each specific dish/ cuisine representation in each city against restaurants nationwide.

The resulting list shows the cuisines and dishes with a disproportionately high level of representation in each major Australian city. Interestingly, a common theme in the results is the trend towards healthy food options nationwide.

The data lists Sydney as the primary stickler for salads, while Brisbane and Perth take preference for sushi. Soup is listed as the number one dish in Melbourne and vegan cuisine takes the top spot in Adelaide.
