Ten William Angliss students have been awarded Nestlé Golden Chefs Hat scholarships.
The scholarships are awarded to domestic or international VET students in the commercial cookery area of study to support skill development, travel, living and other study-related tools, resources and equipment expenses.
“We’re about commitment to the industry over the long term and these chef scholarships are a true testament to that,” says Karlie Durrant, communications manager Nestlé Professional.
“Through our wider support of culinary awards across Oceania we have a legacy spanning eight decades and we very much see our ongoing partnership with Australia’s leading culinary institute as an extension of that. This year has seen us increase our scholarship support in both Melbourne and Sydney campuses and we’re proud to be investing more in the future of our industry, it’s what we’re all about.”
Scholarships are designed to assist students’ with their studies and ultimately help them achieve career ambitions, with many already putting them to good use.
“This could not be achieved without the commitment of our industry partners, who choose to support our students and invest in the future of the industry,” says Nicholas Hunt, the CEO of William Angliss Institute.
Three merit scholarships were awarded to cookery students who have shown academic excellence so far in their studies. Two equity scholarships were also awarded for 2019.
Annabelle Warnock, currently enrolled as a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery student, has taken the chance to move closer to the city, after suffering a serious concussion in 2018 which affected her ability to focus on her Year 12 studies.
“I’ve always enjoyed cooking from a young age and liked the idea of doing something in the food industry,” she says. “When I was concussed, I missed out on six weeks of school which resulted in me falling behind in my classwork and assessment. The concussion really affected my studies as I take a lot of pride in my education and put in hard work, time and effort to achieve high results. The scholarship will help me immensely with my commute and studies.”
