An authentic Italian eatery, Eat’aliano by Pino, has opened in Windsor, Melbourne, with co-owners, restaurateur Alessio Alia and head chef Pino Russo, drawing recipes directly from their homeland.
Alia and Russo have a long working relationship, their first venture being Williamstown’s Mascalzone Pizzeria. Alia previously owned Greville Street’s Sicilian Orange while Russo has spent time in the kitchens at Mulata and La Svolta.
Mediterranean flavours are featured, including thinly-sliced wagyu beef bresaola with crunchy celery, D.O.P grana padano cheese and truffle oil; millefoglio vegetariana with carasau bread, roasted capsicum and straciatella; and panzerotti fritti, a deep fried pizza dough stuffed with friarelli and mozzarella.
With a focus on high quality dough, the menu will incorporate both classic pizzas, like margherita and marinara, along with options like the tartufata with mushroom cream, sausages, truffle oil and shaved parmigiano and the parmigiana made with San Marzano tomato, eggplant, parmigiano, cherry tomatoes and basil. Gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan options are available. Alia said the concept of Eat’aliano is to bring Europe to Melbourne in the most authentic way possible.
“Nothing reminds me more of home than eating and sharing classic Italian cuisine. It was important for Pino and me to capture the essence of Europe in all that the restaurant offers, from the design, menu, wine list, playful waiters and even the authentic music,” he said.
Eat’aliano is open for lunch Tuesday to Friday 11.30pm–3pm and dinner Tuesday to Sunday 5.30pm–10pm at 122 High Street, Windsor.
