Pizzaiolo Johnny Di Francesco is adding to his foodservice footprint in Melbourne, launching a stand-alone gelateria next week.
Di Francesco operates pizzerias 400 Gradi (Brunswick and Essendon) and Gradi at Crown, which have been certified by the AVPN as offering traditional Neapolitan pizza.
Zero Gradi will open just a few doors down from 400 Gradi on Lygon Street, serving traditional Neapolitan gelato.
“Great gelato should be an everyday enjoyment, and when I am in Naples I eat gelato every day,” said Di Francesco. “The gelato there is unlike any other I have found, anywhere in the world, and similarly to how and why 400 Gradi was originally created, I wanted to bring that to the people of Melbourne.”
The gelato will be churned daily on-site and served in the traditional way, with panna (whipped cream). Less traditional, however, is Zero Gradi’s margherita flavoured gelato. Other menu items include cakes and Italian pastries.
