Talented young chefs, waiters and restaurateurs now have until Sunday 10 April to enter the annual Electrolux Appetite for Excellence program.
Founded in 2005, the Appetite for Excellence program which has three categories – Young Chef, Young Waiter and Young Restaurateur – aims to develop, support and recognise the next generation of culinary professionals.
This year, industry icons including Guy Grossi, Mark Best, Peter Doyle, Peter Gilmore, Nick Hildebrant and Luke Mangan will mentor the applicants, who will have the opportunity to take part on educational masterclasses, produce tours and industry networking events.
Australian chef David Pynt – the man behind Burnt Ends and Meatsmith in Singapore – has also been named as a judge in this year's competition.
“We provide people with an environment that assists in developing networks and being involved in a community of like-minded people that are inspiring, knowledgeable who want you to succeed,” said Phee Gardner, project director.
Opportunities and prizes
- Young Chef of the Year: participate in a four day culinary experience in Italy, a stage at a Michelin restaurant in Italy in 2017; return flights to Italy; $3,000 spending money and two weeks’ work experience at a world-renowned restaurant.
- Young Waiter of the Year: Participate in the World Gourmet Summit 2017. Prize includes return flights and $3,000 spending money; plus a two day visit to a renowned Australian winery with the winemaker, including flights and accommodation.
- Young Restaurateur of the Year: Network with industry greats at Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2017 awards in Singapore OR The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2017 awards in London. Prize includes return flights and $8,000 to invest in their business.
Applications were due to close on 31 March but will now be open until 11.59pm on Sunday 10 April. Entries are open to young chefs and waiters under 30 years old and restaurateurs under 35 who are currently working in hospitality. To apply, go to www.appetiteforexcellence.com
