As part of a partnership between Restaurant & Catering Australia (R&CA), the NSW government and chef Rene Redzepi’s Noma Australia, 25 hospitality students will receive training at highly lauded pop-up restaurant.
Students of the Noma Australia Vocational Program will receive on-the-job training and mentoring while they complete their Diploma in Hospitality.
John Hart, CEO of Restaurant & Catering Australia, said “Knowledge sharing and up-skilling Australia’s next generation of chefs and restaurant professionals is necessary to grow our sector and promote future careers in hospitality. Too often the sector is seen as a stepping-stone on the way to an alternative career.
“Improving the employment prospects of trainees is a driving force behind the program, along with supporting recruitment tools such as the Discover Hospitality website. These tools connect apprentices and qualified staff with employers as they progress their career in hospitality,” he said.
Noma Australia opened on Australia Day to rave reviews, and will operate for 10 weeks at Sydney’s Barangaroo, while Noma in Copenhagen undergoes an extensive transformation.
“As an industry sector we need to invest in the skills of our people so hospitality can grow and evolve. That’s why the Noma Vocational Program and the partnership with R&CA and the NSW government is so important,” Hart said.
“We hope that the Noma Australia Vocational Program will help develop the skills of the next generation of Australian chefs and front-of-house, and encourage them to make this their career.”
