Japanese food and liquor venue, Mr Miyagi has expanded into its neighbouring site, launching Yukie’s Snack Bar on Chapel Street.
The double-storey cocktail bar and snack lounge, launching on 15 December, is intended as a spot for a pre-Miyagi dinner cocktail or as its own destination venue, offering a food menu that’s designed to be shared. Food items include the kingfish cured on a Himalayan rock salt slab with green chilli, coriander cream and crispy quinoa; as well as the applewood hot smoked salmon tostadilla with fennel, apple, coriander and yuzu shoyu dressing.
Cocktails include the raspberry and tonka bean margarita with black lava salt and the salted watermelon martini with fresh watermelon juice, gin, apple and hibiscus garnished with Midori infused “faux” olives.
The former art gallery space features fluro-pink LED lighting in the shape of puckered lips, with a back-facing view onto the graffiti-covered brick walls of Artists Lane. A specially commissioned artwork by HEESCO, a celebrated muralist, is reminiscent of street-side Japanese wall art featuring anime characters.
P-E-K STUDIO is responsible for the design and interior fit-out which is light and bright and includes drop lighting and custom-designed furniture. The site boasts bare floorboards and stone bar tops, large custom wooden tables, concrete benches, bar seats downstairs and casual lounge dining upstairs, with the capacity to cater for 120 people.
