A woman has been left in a serious condition after she was struck by a car that crashed into Vinyl Caf on Perkins Street, Newcastle.
According to the ABC, the car reversed out of a parking space into the caf, hitting a parked taxi and then crashing into the woman, who was holding her six month old baby.
A group of about 15 people in the immediate vicinity, including the owner of the neighbouring pub, Mark Chegwidden, then helped to lift the car up so the woman could be pulled out.
The baby was safely removed before the mother, suffering scratches to its head. The mother also suffered bruising and scratches and was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.
“She was in shock,” Chegwidden told the ABC.
"This is out of a movie, but it could have been far … so we're just glad about that."
Police said the driver of the car was not injured and will undergo mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
Earlier this year, on 9 June, a ute crashed into the back of the Serves You Right Caf in Ravenshoe, north Queensland, causing a gas explosion and injuring 21 people including the daughter of the owners, Nicole Dempsey, who suffered burns to 80 percent of her body and subsequently died.
