Sydney’s World Square is celebrating the relaunch of one of its popular restaurants, Taste of Shanghai.
Reopening its doors after a significant refurbishment, commencing in September, the restaurant is serving up its popular brand of traditional Shanghainese food, including its signature house-made xiao long bao, pan fried pork buns, and wontons in red chilli-oil sauce.
With a reinvigorated fit out created by Giant Design, Taste of Shanghai World Square draws its inspiration from the streets of colonial Shanghai, where co-owner Aaron Mi was brought up. Design highlights include recycled brick with aged plaster, distressed toile wallpaper, oversized Chinese screens, and art deco pendants and mirrors. Green velvet curtains are used to divide private rooms. Several of the wallpaper images feature Mi as a child growing up in China.
The venue also boasts an adjoining dim sim section, where live dumpling making adds an element of theatre to the experience.
Opening its first restaurant in Ashfield in 2005, Taste of Shanghai also has restaurants in Eastwood and Hurstville.
