A new South American restaurant, La Puerta, has opened in Sydney’s Neutral Bay.
La Puerta is the first solo venture from ex-head chef of Mexicano, Oscar Espinosa, who was trained by the best chef in his hometown of Colombia before moving to Australia.
The menu features traditional dishes and flavours from Cuba, Argentina, Peru and Brazil, with dishes including broccoli and cauliflower and with Iberico ham shavings; Argentinian style steak with red wine chimmichurri; kingfish mini-fillets over coconut rice topped with creole sauce; and seafood fritters with roasted aioli on a fresh sliced fennel slaw bed.
Espinosa’s wife Catherine is running the restaurant floor after deciding to leave her career as a Spanish language teacher to work with her husband and add to the authenticity of the venue.
“We want to showcase the flavours of South America – to give Sydneysiders something different to what they already have,” Oscar Espinosa said.
La Puerta is open 5.30pm to 11pm, Tuesday to Saturday
