The National Wine Centre’s Wined Bar is set to reopen next month following a major facelift.
Located in the heart of Adelaide, the new look Wined Bar will have a stronger emphasis on food to complement the 120 wines that it has on offer.
NWC general manager, Adrian Emeny said that the decision to take a stronger focus on food was born out of feedback from visitors.
“After 18 months of operation, Wined Bar has proved to be a very popular offering. On review and comment from visitors, we’ve decided to further invest in the consumer experience with an improved offering that will provide greater accessibility, atmosphere and emphasis on food,” said Emeny.
“Food and wine matching will be more prevalent and we’re working on an exciting new menu that will complement the extensive range of wines on offer.”
Designed by South Australian interior design company designthink, the new look venue will feature natural, rustic finishes and around 2,500 bottles suspended from the ceiling.
“It’s about bringing the vineyard feel to the city. The building is quite iconic in Adelaide’s architectural landscape and we felt it was important to give the space a lift that reflected this presence and mordernistic feel,” said designthink’s director, Patrick Caroscio.
Wined Bar is set to reopen in early October.
The bar originally opened in April 2014, boasting the largest wine dispensing bank in Australia. The venue offers a somewhat futuristic take on the traditional cellar door tasting by installing 14 hi-tech Enomatic dispensing machines which have the ability to pour 120 wines at any one time at varying volumes.
Once the bottle is opened, a small shot of argon gas is pumped by the machine into the wine bottles, preserving the wines from oxidation and extending the life of the bottle by up to three weeks.
The wines on offer vary from affordable Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc’s to the likes of Penfolds Grange and Henschke Hill of Grace, which generally retail for anywhere between $500 to $700 per bottle. The new technology enables wine lovers to taste a 25ml pour of Penfolds Grange for around $28, a half glass for $75, or a full glass for $150.
