The Corner Store will reopen in the coming days in the south-eastern suburb of Mentone after undergoing a major refurbishment.
Red Rock Venues area business manager Damien Jones and business partner Tim Jones took over the space in 2016 and decided to overhaul the space with a new look and feel.
“The demographic in Mentone is generally young families, singles, homeowners and working professionals, with a large percentage working in the city. We identified the need for a space with a great all-day dining experience as well as somewhere to get together for a drink without the need to travel to the city,” said Damien.
Head chef Jeremy Duxbury is a local in the area and has designed a menu that reflects the needs of the locals, including a 12-hour pulled-pork roll with crackling to a crispy chicken taco with tequila-compressed watermelon.
“We are one of the only all-day eateries in the area, which means you can always get something to graze on no matter what time of day it is,” said Duxbury. “If it’s early, it could be anything from the all-day breakfast menu, a sandwich, steak, market fish of the day or pasta. The bar menu is quite extensive as is our milkshake menu, and of course, there is great coffee.”
The location takes its design cues from classic 1950s all-day diners and was designed by UK-based firm Goff Associates. “We’ve played on the traditional corner store concept taking the space back to its bare bones,” said Dan Goff, managing director of Goff Associates.
