Joseph Chisholm from Seymore’s Cocktails and Oysters and Giovanni Moschen from Victoria’s Caffé e Cucina were announced as the winners of the Queensland final of the Patrón Perfectionists Cocktail Competition.
Hosted by SouthTrade’s Dean Terramova in Brisbane, the finals were held at Elixir Rooftop Bar where six of the best bartenders from across the country were handpicked to compete in front of judges including owner and director of Barport Glenn Morgan, SouthTrade’s national training coordinator, managing editor of The Weekend Edition Chrisanthi Demos and founder of WhiskyBravoFoxtrot Sholto McNeilage.
Chisholm impressed judges with his service and moreish flavour of the Humble Bee cocktail. “To create the Humble Bee, I drew inspiration from the bee on the Patrón bottle,” says Chisholm. “I wanted to use honey as it is natural and brings a sweet element to the drink, making it an easy tequila drink for people to enjoy.”
Moschen’s cocktail, Calabaza en Tacha, was inspired by pumpkin gnocchi. “I took some memories from my childhood and mixed this with inspiration I have taken from the Patrón brand and Australia,” he says.
Chisholm and Moschen will soon be up against the other four Australian finalists in Melbourne in October and potentially 17 international finalists at the Global Finals in Mexico in 2018.
