The Sparkke Change Beverage Company has won equal gold in the New World Medium Cider category at the 2017 Australian Cider Awards.
Cider producers and industry representatives from across Australia gathered to honour the winners of the awards in Melbourne on 27 October.
Judges noted Sparkke’s cider offered complexity, soft tannins, complex fruit and good acid.
“We’re already proud of our cider, but to be recognised by our industry, and the enduring legends of cider is an amazing experience,” says head brewer Agi Gajic. “We’re grateful and a bit overwhelmed.”
While two of the five medals went to internationally produced ciders, Sparkke Co-founder Rose Kentish believes local ciders are raising the bar.
“We’re really proud to be joining the ranks of other local cider makers that are establishing that same standard of creative excellence in the cider space,” she says.
“It is a reflection of the outstanding quality and variety of the apples grown in the Adelaide Hills.”
Sparkke’s cider is made entirely from crushed Adelaide Hills apples and fermented with a combination of cloudy and clear juice using champagne yeast before it is finished off with fresh juice.
