James Irvine from The Swillhouse Group has won the Bacardi Legacy Australia Cocktail Competition after his Bocado cocktail reigned supreme.
On 12 February, three finalists competed at Darlinghurst’s Eternity Playhouse in front of a 150-strong audience and three judges including Fred Siggins, Dave Kerr and Jason Williams.
Irvine’s drink was judged not only against its ingredients and techniques, but the expertise in marketing the drink to the public.
“Seeing three titans of the artful craft of bartending going head to head under such high pressure is truly inspiring,” says Jonathan Sully, Barcardi-Martini Australia marketing director.
The bartender will travel to Mexico in April on an all-expenses-paid trip to represent Australia at the global grand finale featuring 35 countries.
