Venetian Republic was announced as the first venue for the historic Campbell’s Stores at Circular Quay Development late last year, but the restaurant will no longer open at the site.
Nino Zoccali, principal owner of Pendulum Hospitality (La Rosa The Strand, The Restaurant Pendolino) released a statement confirming the news.
“Unfortunately we will not be proceeding with The Venetian Republic restaurant slated to open at the Campbell’s Stores site, and due to circumstances beyond our control, have terminated our lease arrangements with Tallawolladah Pty Ltd.”
The Venetian Republic was slated to open in late 2018 and was set to include an alfresco dining area, dedicated Venetian Bollicine and Champagne bar and a 100-seat dining room.
The restaurant’s concept revolved around Venetian cuisine with influences from the Dalmatian Coast, Montenegro and the former Venetian-reigned Greek Islands.
Zoccali says he is disappointed he is pursuing legal actions and remedies instead of focusing on the venue, but hopes to open the restaurant at an alternative location in the future.
