The winners for the Eat Drink Design Awards have been revealed, with hospitality venues upping the ante in the design stakes.
The Best Bar Design was awarded to Adelaide’s Malt & Juniper designed by Sans-Arc Studio, who also took out the award for Pink Moon Saloon in 2016.
Commendations went to Above Board, Imperial Hotel and Barangaroo House.
Best Restaurant Design was awarded to Ishizuka by Russell & George, with Barangaroo House, Bar Carolina, Sunda Bar & Restaurant, Fonda Bondi and Longsom receiving commendations.
Best Café went to Bentwood Café by Ritz & Ghougassia. Sensory Lab, Brunetti Flinders Lane, Edition Roasters and Willow Urban Retreat all received commendations.
Shobosho by Crafty Design took out the award for Best Identity Design and Cookie by Phillip Schemnitz Architect was inducted into the Eat Drink Design Awards’ Hall of Fame.
“The projects that resonated with the jury were those that demonstrated authenticity, clarity and confidence,” says Cassie Hansen, jury chair and editor of Artichoke magazine.
“We were excited by projects where the designer had successfully told the narrative of the venue through careful selection of materials, colours and forms. My fellow jurors and I agree that Australia is at the forefront of global hospitality design.”
It’s essential for hospitality venues to not just offer good food and drink, but a space that makes consumers enjoy their time at the venue and want to return again.
