Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants for 2019 were revealed at a ceremony at Wynn Palace Macau, with Japan taking out the most places in the top 50.
Odette restaurant by chef Julien Royer took out the no.1 spot, making it the first restaurant in Singapore to snag the title. Odette also secured the award for The Best Restaurant in Singapore.
Former no.1 restaurant Gaggan from Bangkok has been bumped to the second spot, with Den in Tokyo snagging no.3, Suhring in Bangkok ranking fourth and Florilege in Tokyo rounding out the top five.
“Now in its seventh year, the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list continues to evolve, inspire and showcase emerging talent,” says William Drew, group editor of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants.
Belon restaurant in Hong Kong received the Highest Climber Award, moving 25 places since 2018 to no.15.
There were 10 new restaurants that made the cut including Dewakan (no.46), a first-time entry from Malaysia, and Toyo Eatery (no.43) from the Philippines.
Zaiyu Hasegawa from Den, Tokyo, received the Chefs’ Choice Award and Fabrizio Fiorani from Il Ristorante Luca Fantin, Tokyo, was named Asia’s Best Pastry Chef.
