After popping up at 45 Collins Street, Melbourne, earlier in the year, Pope Joan has announced it has made a permanent home out of the site.
The cult Brunswick East café will open for breakfast, lunch and dinner from Monday to Friday, with plenty of favourites making their way back onto the menu.
“I am insanely excited,” says chef Matt Wilkinson. “It’s a dream come true to re-open Pope Joan. I’ve been really overwhelmed by the response from the public, and I’m so stoked that we can keep the doors open permanently.”
Diners can expect the return of the boiled egg and soldiers along with a selection of their award-winning sandwiches. There will also be some new breakfast additions including fried eggs with hummus and pickled red kraut along with devilled eggs on sourdough with bacon
A range of small dishes are on offer for lunch and dinner, covering everything from corn, cheddar and jalapeno croquettes to local mussels with smoked tomato romesco and aioli plus Milawa chicken schnitzel with garlic and mustard butter.
The cake trolley from the pop-up will remain and Pope Joan’s famous rice pudding will be available all day. Not to forget the drinks offering, which encompasses a range of wines, beers, cocktails and alcohol-free options.
