Maybe Sammy was named Best Bar in Australasia at The World’s 50 Best Bars awards in London on Thursday 3 October. The Sydney cocktail bar, which opened just nine months ago, was the only Australian bar to make the top 50, coming in at no.43.
It’s the latest in a list of accolades for the team: since launching in January, Maybe Sammy has been awarded Best International New Cocktail Bar at the 2019 Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards (held in New Orleans) and Best Cocktail Bar, Bar Team of the Year and NSW Cocktail Bar of the Year at the 2019 Australian Bar Awards (held in Sydney).
Co-owned by Stefano Catino, Vince Lombardo and Andrea Gualdi, Maybe Sammy is located in The Rocks. Catino and Lombardo also own Maybe Frank pizzeria and cocktail bar in Surry Hills and Randwick.
“We are blown away that Maybe Sammy has been so well received by our national and international peers,” says Catino, who attended the ceremony London alongside bartender Martin Hudak. “To be named as one of The World’s Best 50 Bars is such an honour, especially within our first year. We had a clear vision for Maybe Sammy and are very grateful to our amazing team for bringing it to life. We really couldn’t have done it without them.”
Last week, The World’s 50 Best Bars revealed the extended 51-100 list, with four Australian bars making the cut: Bulletin Place (Sydney) at no.66, The Baxter Inn (Sydney) at no.79, Black Pearl (Melbourne) at no.80 and new entry PS40 (Sydney) at no.95.
