After an electrical fire broke out in Nomad in September, Al and Rebecca Yazbek’s restaurant has moved up the road.
Taking over the former site of Longrain on Commonwealth Street in Surry Hills, Nomad Up the Road will operate in the space while the Foster Street site is restored.
In spite of the absence of a wood-fired oven, head chef Jacqui Challinor says the move has allowed her to create a menu that combines the old with the new.
“The move has given me a clean slate to play around with some new ideas that I’ve had for a while,” she says. “Nothing has changed about the way I love to cook, so the new menu is still all about big, bold flavours, generosity and good, honest cooking.”
The kingfish ceviche and zucchini flowers remain on the menu with new additions including potted mud crab with piment d’espelette butter and salted kingfish croquettes with XO and finger lime.
Nomad’s original site is slated to reopen in early 2020.
