Licensed venues in New South Wales have been given the green light to deliver cocktails to customers.
Venues including restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars are now allowed to sell food and alcohol for takeaway and home delivery services after Customer Service Minister Victor Dominello approved the order.
“We’ve got to think of the health of the people, but we’ve also got to think of the health of the economy and we are transitioning to a takeaway and delivery economy as we fight coronavirus,” said Dominello.
The announcement is a welcome relief to venues, but especially pubs and bars who were essentially shut down on Monday without the option to offer takeaway or delivery.
Independent MP for Sydney Alex Greenwhich was behind the proposal, and said he’s grateful for the government’s approval.
“Many bars and pubs are caught in a gap that could prevent them from accessing any income during the government’s lockdown measures,” said Greenwich.
“It will be especially important for small bars who have a very loyal customer base that wants to support them and their specialty offerings during these difficult times.”
Details on the delivery model will be released shortly.
