Gold Coast underground tequila bar Veladora is now home to La Vitrina; a members-only experience that gives patrons access to rare Mexican spirits.
Bartender Mycol Cavalieri has curated the collection, which includes limited release tequila Calle 23 Criollo; El Jolgorio Tepeztate mezcal and Flor del Desierto Veneno, which is cured with rattlesnake venom.
Upon joining, guests will be given a copita (clay bowl) for mezcal tastings. But you’ll have to cough up $500 for a six-month membership.
The experience encourages participants to build their own collection of spirits to enjoy along with in-house chasers made from locally grown herbs, spices and pineapple.
The spirits price list ranges from $150 to $7,500 with an average of $400 for a bottle. Members are able to store their bottles in private lockers at the bar to enjoy during their visits.
A complimentary assortment of unique bar snacks are on offer for members including isomalt popcorn, black squid ink guacamole with green ants, mealworm-seasoned salsa and peanut and cricket trail mix.
Veladora is open Friday and Saturday evenings from 6pm until late.
