Waygood arrived in Melbourne’s Richmond in July and has fast made a name for itself as the go-to for casual dining and a stellar round-up of wine and beer.
The concept is spearheaded by Martin Pirc (Punch Lane, Saint.Urban, Juliet Melbourne) who replaced Saint.Urban with the new venue.
Waygood is a multipronged space that revolves around afternoon plates and dinner Tuesday to Thursday; midday bites onwards on Friday and Saturday and an additional 10am service until late on Saturdays.
“People can come as they are and enjoy as they please,” says Pirc. “We’re hoping it will become a central hub and meeting place for the neighbourhood.”
Executive Chef Nuno Gabriel is changing the menu up weekly, with example dishes covering cauliflower schnitzel with jalapeno kraut and mayo; pan-fried ricotta and sage gnocchi with mushroom and silverbeet and white pepper chicken with braised cabbage and fried potatoes.
The Saturday brunch menu sees dishes including kimchi fried rice and a raft of drinks packages.
Afternoons at Waygood on Tuesday and Wednesday see 2131 specials, which cover a daily plate and a wine or beer for $31.
The cellar element of the venue is curated by Chris Broughton from The European Group, who has curated 80 rotating pours.
There’s room for 45 seated diners inside and space for 16 guests outside.
Waygood is open Tuesday to Thursday 4pm-11pm, Friday 12pm-late and Saturday 10am-late.
