Tokyo Lamington Owners Min Chai and Eddie Stewart have opened White Moon Bar in backstreets of Sydney’s Newtown.
The new venture channels a common Japanese concept known as tachinomi, which are defined as intimate casual standing bars.
“What can I say? We love the space,” says Stewart. “It gives us a chance to share our passion for Japan. It is perfect for a local standing bar.”
Behind the bar is Japanese-native Karen Kimura, who is serving up sake, beer and drinks.
Leading the kitchen is Chef Jieun Lee who has done stints at Cumulus Inc, SuperNormal and Quay.
The menu sees Japanese classics such as karage and other experimental creations, alongside desserts from Tokyo Lamington.
White Moon Bar is now open Wednesday to Sunday from 5pm until 10pm.
The venue is located on 227 Australia Street Newtown.
