Acclaimed Adelaide restaurant Africola has announced it will launch a spin-off venue later this month.
Africola Canteen will open its doors on The Parade in Norwood and see patrons enjoy a more casual dining experience spearheaded by Owner-Chef Duncan Welgemoed, Head Chef Joel Tisato and Development Chef Imogen Czsulowski.
The menu will chart some of Africola’s most iconic dishes as well as new creations from the culinary team.
“People have been asking us to open a second restaurant for ages, so you can stop now, ‘cause that day is almost here,” says Welgemoed.
“This is the everyday Africola experience; think of Africola Canteen as Iggy Pop to Africola’s The Stooges, it’s as fun and delicious as the original but with a few twists to make it a place that stands on its own.”
There will be more than 50 rotating salad options as well as roasted meats, grains and veg-centric dishes available for patrons to take home or enjoy in the venue’s dining space.
Think whole cauliflower with turmeric butter and tahini and green goddess chicken.
“The menu leans into what makes the original restaurant so great – it caters for all dietary and lifestyle requirements – but unlike the original restaurant you don’t have to book weeks in advance,” says Tisato.
“Africola Canteen is a chance for customers to drop in and quickly grab their Africola favourites to take home or enjoy with mates on the Parade.”
The Canteen will also see an extensive zero-alcohol drinks list covering a range of shrubs, organic sodas and kombuchas along with the retail launch of the much-loved Mpumalanga Fire sauce.
Africola Canteen will open in late July.
