Sydney-based coffee roasters Single O have announced the arrival of its new sustainability initiative Gettin’ Loopy.
The brand has partnered up with local artists and businesses to continue its efforts in limiting the impact on the environment by championing upcycling, recycling and sustainable materials within its network.
“While it’s a challenge to get it all right when it comes to our responsibility to the environment and sustainability, we continue to persevere by playing around with different areas of waste and recycling to learn how to do both the little and big things better,” says General Manager Mike Brabant.
Ceramicist Malcolm Greenwood, known for creating custom tableware for the hospitality sector, has worked with the team to develop Sludge Cups.
The cups are exclusive to Single O and are made from 100 per cent ceramic waste or sludge from the wash-up sink and glaze.
Following the launch of Single O’s recent Art Bag series with Artist Paul McNeil the brand are also working with Gabi McInerheney from BagMeOut to upcycle the 1kg coffee bean bags into Zip Surf wax bags.
In addition, Single O are also launching Surfer Eco T-Shirts with graphics from McnNeil.
All shirts are made with 50 percent recycled in-house cutting waste cotton and 50 per cent organic cotton, using energy from wind and solar power.
The product range is part of a bigger initiative for the company, who are working towards becoming carbon neutral.
“We think these little nudges eventually add up and they help us work towards getting more and more right in each area of our business,” says Brabant. “Perfection is the enemy to progress in this space.”
Sludge Cups are $30, Paul McNeil Surf Wax bags are $10 and the Surfer Tees are $49.95.
