The Brunswick listening bar is heading to Sydney for a pop-up series at Rekōdo Restaurant and Vinyl Bar at Barangaroo House next month.
Each Wednesday night across May, Waxflower will be bringing their resident DJs to the floor alongside their Japanese-inspired dishes, cocktails and minimal-intervention wine offering.
There will be an exclusive Waxflower x Rekōdo snack menu on offer throughout the pop up, alongside the house Autumn menu.
Highlights include wagyu beef skewers prepared kabayaki-style and chicken wing gyoza with soy dashi sauce.
Drinks wise, the two venues have collaborated to craft a menu sending a nod to Rekōdo’s Japanese whisky list while also adding the signature Rekōdo touch.
Some of the cocktails on pour include the Yuzu Chuhai with Tsuru-Ume, yuzushu, soda and prosecco; along with the Umeboshi Old Fashioned with Tenjaku whisky and Shinobu peated whisky.
Rekōdo’s minimal-intervention wine list will also be available including producers like Eastern Peake, Borachio and Tom Shobbrook.
Rekōdo’s resident DJs will also be on hand to provide the tunes for the evening with Montana on 3 May; Malter Majik and Deep Byrne 10 May; Earl Grey on 17 May; DJ Possum on 24 May and Myles Mac on 31 May.
“Rekōdo and Waxflower are both inspired by the iconic ‘jazz kissaten’ of Tokyo and the listening bar scene of Brooklyn and London, whilst providing their own unique flavour to their respective cities,” says Waxflower Co-founder David Byrne.
“Red-hot sound systems, incredible food, delicious drinks. We think it makes perfect sense for them to come together.”
CEO of Solotel Elliot Solomon also adds the collaboration is set to be a lot of fun.
“We’re pumped to have our friends from Waxflower call Rekōdo home on Wednesday nights in May,” he adds.
“Whether you’re dropping in for a drink and snack or kicking on for a full omakase dining experience, it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
Waxflower x Rekōdo is on from 6pm each Wednesday in May at Rekōdo, Level 1, Barangaroo House.
