It will be the second Warkop venue for owners Barry Susanto (ex-Navi sous chef) and Erwin Chandra after their first opening in 2021 in Richmond.
Located on Little Collins Street in the heart of the Melbourne CBD, the menu will feature an array of sandwiches the venue is known and loved for.
The popular Shokupan bread sandwich with roast pork, sambul burrata and black garlic is set to star, along with the tempe and tofu focaccia with gado gado sauce.
There will also be a bunch of house-made sweet and savoury treats, including sambal matah cheese crullers, glazed crullers and sausage and egg muffins with bazzinga sauce.
Salads along with fresh, toasted and fried sandwiches will also be available to order.
Chandra and Susanto first met while working at Dukes Coffee Roasters, and there began their journey to open a venue to showcase Indonesian cuisine in a unique way.
“We are so excited to bring Warkop to the city and offer more Melbournians a taste of Indonesia,” says Chandra.
“We saw the immense impact lockdowns had on the hospitality industry in the CBD, which is why we chose 13 Lt. Collins Street for our new shop.”
“We wanted to do our bit and contribute to the revival of the CBD’s lively foodie scene, and we hope that the opening will motivate curious diners and office workers to get back into the city and support all the phenomenal bars, delis, cafes and eateries it has,” continues Susanto.
The venue takes its name from the casual, cafe-style street stalls in Indonesia called Warung Kopi.
Sonelo Architects are behind the design of the CBD venue, which will feature cork flooring, raw timber panelling and woven rattan to create a warm, familiar space.
Warkop is set to open on 2 May, and is located at 13 Little Collins Street, Melbourne.
