The five competitors have been revealed for the Diageo World Class Bartender of the Year final set to be held in Sydney on 27 June.
It’s the 14th year of the esteemed bartending competition, with the five finalists hailing from some of the country’s top watering holes.
The five finalists are:
- Eduardo Conde of El Primo Sanchez, Sydney
- Lachlan Gunner of Sourtrap, Adelaide
- Andie Bulley of Saville Row, Brisbane
- Alex Gondzioulis of Liquid & Larder, Sydney
- Rohan Massie of Rude Boy, Hobart
The national final will see the bartenders compete in three rounds throughout the day.
The first round will challenge the bartenders to create a modern and sophisticated cocktail with Johnnie Walker Blue Label.
The second round will involve Don Julio 1942, where bartenders will be asked to use the tequila as a base for an inventive cocktail creation.
The third round is yet to be revealed, but is set to star a product from Diageo’s portfolio that will have to be used across five serves in five minutes.
The five serves will include three classic, and two original cocktails with bartenders choosing their classics at the start of the day and given a mystery box 30 minutes prior to the round.
The winner from the day will then compete in Brazil this September, for the crown of World Class Global Bartender of the Year.
“World Class is a celebration of bartenders and the bars they showcase their craft in,” Diageo National Trade Advocacy Manager Kate McGraw.
“All five of our finalists represent the best of what Australian hospitality has to offer, and we have no doubt this will be one of our most impressive and inspiring competitions yet.”
