The wait is over. The Odd Culture Group has unveiled its first Melbourne venue on Fitzroy’s Brunswick Street this week.
Located in a heritage building formerly home to a post office, the 300-pax venue hosts a bottle shop and hybrid bar.
Fermentation is at the heart of Odd Culture Fitzroy, with a wide range of natural wine, wild ale beer, and seasonal cocktails starring local ingredients on pour.
Odd Culture Group’s Executive Chef James MacDonald has crafted a bar snack offering designed to pair with the venue’s wide range of tipples.
Fans of the venue’s Newtown sibling will be pleased to hear cult favourites such as the chicken liver pâté with potato chips and fish caramel have made their way across the border.
There are also a range of sharing plates including a charcuterie board with Baker Bleu baguettes, St David’s Dairy cultured butter, duck and pistachio terrine and meats from Meatsmith.
“We want Odd Culture to be the place to go if you need good booze, full stop,” says Odd Culture Group Beverage Manager Jordan Blackman.
“I don’t think there’s anywhere in the country you can get as pointy-end and specialised in both beer, wine and cocktails, and you can still just sink an ice-cold lager at the bar or in the beer garden if that’s all you’re after.”
On the drinks front, expect a wide selection of natural wines, alongside some special cellared bottles and a nice range from Burgundy and Jura.
There are also 12 rotating beer taps at the bar, which feature some rare collaborations along with a strong Victorian focus.
Gerry Nass has been appointed as General Manager of the venue, after time spent owning and operating the Robbie Burns Hotel in Collingwood.
Design wise, Odd Culture Fitzroy takes cues from its popular older Newtown sibling, with an eye-catching mural and tones of dark wood, brass, and green.
Odd Culture Fitzroy is open daily, and is located at 1/296 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy.
