Raja is the work of Co-Owners Nick and Kirk Mathews-Bowden who also own Middle Eastern restaurant Ezra.
Located next to door to Ezra on Potts Point’s Kellett Street, Raja pays homage to the flavours, dishes, and ingredients of Mumbai through a modern food offering.
“Raja is our ode to the amazing city of Bombay, bringing Sydney a taste of its food scene, vibrancy, curated chaos, stories, myths and traditions,” Mathews-Bowden both said.
“Raja will tell a story through chic interiors, fresh and light ingredients, elegant cocktails, natural wines, a killer soundtrack and genuine hospitality.”
Ahana Dutt has been appointed head chef for Raja after time spent at Mumbai’s Taj Lands End and The Westin, and here in Australia at Sydney’s Firedoor.
The menu consists of snacks, small plates, mains, and side dishes that focus on Mumbai-style flavours while championing local and sustainable produce.
Some of the highlights across the menu include Hara Bhara Goat Riblets; butter, garlic, and pepper crab; and an albacore with adai, gunpowder, and lemon jam.
On the drinks front, Michael Chiem from PS40 has designed a cocktail offering that draws on Indian-inspired flavours and ingredients.
Raja’s interiors are the work of NY-based designer Rosie Rainbow and includes an illuminated waved front courtyard, hand-painted murals, tiled archways, and a dusty pink dining space.
Raja is open Tuesday to Thursday for dinner, and for both lunch and dinner from Friday to Sunday.
Raja is located at 1 Kellett Street, Potts Point, Sydney.
