The Sydney-based hospitality group will reopen the historic pub in Sydney’s Darlinghurst on September 13th.
The new-look Taphouse will still carry its beloved charm but with a new Cantonese menu spearheaded by Director of Culinary Patrick Friesen and Head Chef Sam Ng.
“We were inspired by the great English tradition of leasing out pub kitchens and serving a style of food not normally associated with a pub,” says Applejack Owner Hamish Watts.
“So we have utilised one of our greatest assets, Director of Culinary Patrick Friesen alongside new Head Chef Sam Ng, who has joined our team via Hong Kong (with an impressive resume citing Ho Lee Fook, Praya and Stanley), to offer an epic Cantonese menu.”
The menu will be served across all three levels of the venue, and will feature a range of traditional dishes crafted with organic produce.
Some of the dishes set to star include steamed barramundi with pickled chilli and black bean; Jangs egg noodles with crispy pork belly; cruller prawn toast; and Shandong crispy skin chicken leg.
Alongside the food, guests can expect a wide range of beers on tap and entertainment with a roster of live music and DJ sets.
The Taphouse’s rooftop terrace has also undergone a renovation to boast a palette of white and blue for European-inspired summer vibes.
Applejack Hospitality acquired the Taphouse after it went into liquidation in May, and have taken three months to renovate the site.
It’s the ninth venue in the Applejack Hospitality portfolio, and is the second time the group have relaunched a pub venue after its renovation of Surry Hills’ Forrester’s.
Taphouse will open on 13 September and is located at 122 Flinders Street, Darlinghurst.
