Est. is set to transform into a mahjong club courtesy of Johnnie Walker Blue Label come 17 February.
The brand is celebrating Lunar New Year with the installation in Sydney’s CBD, which will see a mahjong master lead tournaments throughout the day as guests sample food by Dan Hong and Johnnie Walker cocktails.
“I have vivid memories of growing up watching my friend’s mum play mahjong and spending Lunar New Year with my family, surrounded by food,” says Hong.
“The menu I’ve created pays homage to those memories and traditions, and the ingredients that have important cultural symbolism around Lunar New Year, but each with a fresh new twist – a modern makeover and a few extra extravagant touches.”
The executive chef has put together six bite-sized snacks covering king crab and scallop pot stickers; rock lobster bao with ginger and shallot; prawn toast with otoro and finger lime and a hot and numbing Wagyu skewer.
There’s also a version of Longevity noodles with chilli and truffle along with a classic egg tart to finish.
In-house bar talent Jonathan Liu has created three cocktails using Blue Label including the Hi-Prosperity (ginger, yuzu, chrysanthemum); Blue Wishes (apple and rose honey, Champagne); and Peace and Peaches (clarified coconut milk, peach, and pandan).
The Mahjong Club is open from 1:30-9:00pm and is hosted by Remy Hii.
Bookings are now open, with prices starting at $60.
