After months of renovations, Jonny’s Green Room has swung open its doors in Melbourne’s Carlton.
Karen Martini is spearheading the rooftop bar’s new food offering which stars Italian-style share plates and pizza.
Some of the dishes on the menu include tuna crudo with pickled fennel and curry leaves; smoky peppers with anchovies; stracciatella with cucumber, green melon, and mint.
The pizzas are crafted with a 48-hour slow fermented dough with a range of toppings including a classic margherita and a bianco e verde with asparagus, confit garlic, parmesan, stracchino, and stracciatella.
Drinks-wise, guests can expect a carefully curated cocktail offering by Matt Bax (Bar Americano, Tippling Club) which includes riffs on Italian classics.
The menu includes a hugo spritz with King & Godfree kitchen spearmint; a pidapipo sgroppino with lemon gelato; and a limoncello margarita with house made limoncello.
Sommelier George McCullough is behind the wine list which features a large selection of savoury, textural whites from Italy and food-friendly reds.
Johnny’s Green Room will also host a music program with Hope Street Radio to welcome some of Melbourne’s top DJs.
Designer Dion Hall is behind Johnny Green Room’s look, which takes its cues from the architecture, colours, and atmosphere of Italian venues.
“We drew from memories of Italy and explored materials that are humble and timeless,” says Dion Hall.
“The palette delves into warm tones, with emphasis placed on the bar’s expression and how it cradles the space.”
Johnny’s Green Room is now open at Level 2 293-297 Lygon Street, Carlton, Victoria.
