A Brisbane bartender has won Moutai’s Enter The Dragon 3 cocktail competition, which recently took place in Sydney over two days.
A total of 10 drinks professionals from across the country competed in the final round, which required them to create a Moutai cocktail in just five minutes and present it to the judging panel.
Judges included Pasan Wijesena from Earls Juke Joint, Mikey Enright from Barrelhouse Group, and Barney Toy from Harbour City Hospitality who critiqued cocktails from:
- Bertie Boekemann (Now and Then)
- Brendan Scott Grey (Bar Love)
- Cristiano Beretta (Pocket Bar)
- Dave Whitehead (18th Amendment)
- Doris Yiyang Gao (PS40)
- Gorge Camorra (Non Disclosure Bar)
- Jono Carr (Chuck & Sons)
- Jenny Wang (Sokyo)
- Simon Dacey (Applewood Distillery)
- Ed Quatermass (Cuatro Group)
In the end, Quatermass from Brisbane’s Cuatro Group (Antico, Dr Gimlette, and Death & Taxes) emerged victorious, with judges praising his drink named ‘Beautiful Punch’.
The cocktail combined Milo, local shiitake mushroom tincture, coffee liqueur, vanilla, and 30ml of Moutai Prince. To celebrate the win, the drink will be available in-venue for a limited time.
“Taking part in this year’s Moutai Enter The Dragon 3 competition has been an unforgettable experience,” says Quatermass. “I am truly thankful to be part of such a close-knit hospitality community and am incredibly proud of being able to represent Brisbane in such a prestigious event.”
Moutai is a leading producer of Baijiu, a traditional liquor that is often referred to as China’s national spirit. The spirit has a rich history, and has been produced for more than 4,000 years.
