The Mornington Peninsula is set to welcome a new culinary destination this February.
Barragunda Dining is located on Barragunda Estate, which sits on more than 1,000 acres of native bushland in Cape Schanck. The venue is owned by the Morris Group, which runs The Albert Park Hotel, Half Moon, and the Portsea Hotel.
Dubois: Architecture and Interiors have renovated an existing farm building on the estate, creating a glass pavilion extension that overlooks the restaurant’s sprawling garden as well as the open kitchen.
Food system advocate Hayley Morris and executive chef and farmer Simone Watts (who has spent time in Melbourne kitchens including Pearl, Coda, and Momo) have worked closely together to develop the foundation of the 40-seater, which has been four years in the making.
The pair hope to “welcome guests to experience Barragunda’s unique sense of place through food, wine, and embracing the natural beauty of this corner of the Peninsula”.
The restaurant is at the completion stage, and will welcome guests from late February, who will enjoy a set menu rooted in seasonality. The majority of ingredients will be sourced on the estate itself, which is home to an orchard of 800 trees as well as organic grains and vegetables grown in a two-acre garden.
