Paisano & Daughters has announced that two of its three new venues will open on Newtown’s Australia Street next month.
The group is best known for neighbouring eatery Continental Deli, and will shortly expand its Sydney restaurant portfolio with Flora, an all-day vegetarian restaurant, and Mister Grotto, a 30-seat seafood restaurant.
Head Chef Jude Hughes (formerly Three Blue Ducks and lauded Adelaide Hills venue The Summertown Aristologist) has been appointed head chef of Flora, which will prioritise sustainability, seasonality, and innovation in vegetarian cuisine.
In-house fermentation, cheese-making and vinegars will accompany wood-fire cooking and locally sourced ingredients.
Next door at Mister Grotto, the décor is moodier, encompassing a dark timber-panelled ceiling emulating the upturned hull of a boat. In line with the nautical theme, the seafood-focused restaurant will see Head Chef Mans Engberg put together a menu charting raw seafood and dishes cooked over charcoal.
In early March, Osteria Mucca will be the third and final restaurant to join Continental Deli in the strip of Australia Street shops.
Flora will open daily from 8am to 10pm and Mister Grotto from midday until 3pm on weekends, and for dinner every night from 5:30-11pm.
