After twenty years the Short family have decided to close Scubar. The central Sydney venue is well-known as a hangout for university students and backpackers.
Scubar was a family project that the late Warwick Short and son Martin Short embarked on as partners. Martin’s sister Paris Ballantyne helmed Scubar before joining with Martin and mother Ros Short to build the W. Short Hotel Group in memory of Warwick.
“It’s been a pleasure to host so many awesome customers – both locals and those passing through Sydney. Scubar has been a breeding ground for talent both within W. Short Hotel Group venues and the broader hospitality industry. To the many great staff members we have been proud to employ over the years, we thank you for your passion and friendship,” said Martin Short.
“We have yet to confirm the date of our last day of trade but it will be within the next three months. Rest assured when we do, we’ll be planning one hell of a party. Scubar remains trading at full steam until then and we hope to see many old friends take the chance to say goodbye and share their memories with the team over the next few months.”
The W. Short Hotel Group owns seven venues around NSW including Scubar, and The Rock’s venues The Glenmore Hotel and The Australian Hotel.
