Steampunk Surfers Paradise has announced its opening date, kicking off with a VIP grand opening event on Friday 7 April.
The 550sqm venue within the Cavill Lane precinct in the heart of Surfers Paradise will pay homage to the retro-futuristic subculture that is inspired by the 19th century’s steam-powered Victorian period.
Owner Grant Rodgers said the venue would reflect Steampunk’s obsession with the functional and industrial while giving off an open, airy and contemporary vibe.
“There’s a lot of brass and copper, heavy Victorian furniture, and intricate gadgets and artwork with moving parts,” Rodgers said.
“While we have that strong retro theme, the size of the bar means it will be spacious and social, with a large deck opening outside to embrace the main street ambience of this location.”
Rodgers said the venue’s dedicated live music stage would add to the laidback atmosphere.
“We are keen to attract locals who have been waiting for a more chilled-out bar where they can experience live music and relax with friends in Surfers Paradise,” he said.
Steampunk’s mixologists will make molecular cocktails using unique spirits and the venue will serve up authentic pub food in a share-plate style.
