The Resident, a Mediterranean restaurant opposite Sydney’s Hyde Park, has closed after five months of service. The venue, which is part of the Lotus Dining group, was led by Spanish-born chef Pablo Tordesillas.
The closure comes despite positive reviews, from both media and diners.
“We made the difficult decision to close The Resident this week because as a business we want to focus on what we do best – modern Chinese. While the location on College Street overlooking Hyde Park is stunning and both customer and media feedback was excellent, the business wasn’t where we would have liked to see it,” said Tara Sullivan, director of operations for The Lotus Group, in a statement.
“The Resident was a great learning experience and one which we are grateful for but we are excited about continuing to deliver excellent modern Chinese dining experiences. We will open a new venture in the site in the New Year but we’ll have a think about what that concept is over the next couple of months and announce in the new year.”
Micheal Jiang, owner of Lotus Dining, told GoodFood that Tordesillas would not stay on to lead the new venue’s kitchen.
