Some of Australia’s best chefs and restaurateurs will unite at the inaugural Restaurant Leaders Summit next Monday, discussing the best ways to boost the profitability and efficiency of the foodservice sector.
Held at Doltone House, Jones Bay Wharf, the one-day conference, hosted by Hospitality magazine, will provide business leaders with an invaluable opportunity to not only connect with fellow industry members, but to learn from their experiences and get the latest on business best practice.
The Summit will comprise a number of panel discussions with topics ranging from staffing, funding growth, establishing email databases and social media to diversifying revenue streams, the rise of fast casual and creating more profitable menu items.
Panellists include:
- Thomas Pash, CEO of the Urban Purveyor Group
- John Fink, creative director at The Fink Group
- David Stossel, group food and dining manager at Solotel
- Kate Tones, group HR manager at Merivale
- Danielle Gjestland, owner of Wasabi restaurant
- Erez Gordon, owner of Bishop Sessa
- Nelly Robinson, chef and owner of nel. restaurant; and
- Sarah Doyle, co-owner of Porteno and Bodega (amongst others)
There will also be a series of one-on-one Q&A sessions with successful chefs and operators such as Oakridge Winery’s Matt Stone, who just last week was named delicious. magazine’s Oustanding Chef of the Year, as well as Danielle Gjestland, owner of Wasabi in Noosa and former Appetite for Excellence Young Restaurateur of the Year.

Josephine Perry, owner of Missy French in Potts Point and daughter of restaurateur Neil Perry will discuss How Millenials Run Restaurants, and Jake Symth, co-owner of Mary’s Burgers, will explain how he helped resurrect The Unicorn Hotel, in a session titled Rising From the Ashes.
Ameer El-Issa, owner of the popular Knafeh food container will deliver a special presentation, explaining his decision to abandon his family’s restaurant and launch a mobile shipping container, selling just one menu item.
The day will be MC’d by Profitable Hospitality’s Ken Burgin, who labelled Restaurant Leaders Summit as “one of the best events of the year.” He’ll be weighing in on the Gadget Time: Tricks for Extending Your Reach session, sharing simple yet effective ways for operators to use their mobile phones and other devices to increase patronage and drive efficiency. He’ll be joined by Placed Recruitment’s Geremy Glew, Sean O’Meara from Impos and Lisa Hasen from Open Table.
