Having undergone a complete overhaul of its third level, The Randwick Club will welcome Zhu Canton, a 280-seat Cantonese Restaurant offering traditional Asian cuisine with a modern twist.
Zhu Canton is a joint venture between The Randwick Club and Gabe Lo, director of The Club Catering Management Group.
“We are excited to bring the success of our Western Suburbs operations, to Eastern Diners. We offer the traditional values of Chinese cuisine, but with a modern twist,” said Lo.
Designed by giant Design, whose previous works include Jamie’s Trattoria, Luke Nguyen’s Red Lantern on Riley and Din Tai Fung, Zhu Canton covers the entire third floor and auditorium of the Club. The design is dramatic and theatrical, with a backlit and billowing fabric featuring an abstract Chinese watercolour covering the ceiling. The central dining space is broken into more intimate dining spaces by a series of dark timber screens, while the open kitchen is framed by marble.
Guests can also access an ‘outdoor’ terrace offering views of the city. A timber pergola with overhead hanging vines and fairy lights runs the length of the windowed terrace. The front section of the terrace is a more intimate dining section allowing small groups privacy. There is also a private dining room for 20, which is closed off to other diners via large timber-framed, frosted bi-folding doors.
Executive chef, Billy Tam, who brings over 40 years of experience, will run the kitchen together with dim sum master, Johnny Lai. A yum cha menu, including handmade dumplings and dim sims, is offered throughout the day. The dinner menu includes live and fresh seafood dishes such as mud crab, Murray cod, and baby abalone, prepared and cooked to diners’ liking at market price. For groups of four or more, there is an imperial banquet selection ranging from $38 to $68 per person.
