For the first time, Australia will host the Tea Masters Cup in May, held at the Meat Market Building in North Melbourne.
A competition for tea professionals, the event is also run in South Korea, Vietnam, Turkey, Ukraine, Latvia, Belarus and Russia.
Held on 15 May, the Australian competition will see 20 industry professionals take part in any or all of the three categories: tea brewing, tea and food pairing and tea tasting. The winner will claim the Australian title and will go on to compete in the Tea Masters Cup International World Competition in South Korea on 9 June.
“We are keen to expose a whole new scene within the local tea industry,” said Sharyn Johnston, founder of the Australian Tea Masters. “This competition is the first of its kind ever run in Australia. What is really interesting is the growing interest from leading baristas wanting to try their hand at brewing tea in a style that reflects their individual personality and flair.”
