The Australian Financial Review’s Australia’s Top Restaurant program has officially launched its online Insider’s Guide to the nation’s Top 500 restaurants.
The free online resource features profiles on each of the 500 restaurants, and is designed to help both locals and overseas visitors discover great restaurants at every level of the dining spectrum across the country.
“It’s an open invitation to everyone to get out there and try more of the restaurants on the list, while increasing exposure for the restaurants as well,” says co-director of the Guide and chief restaurant critic for the SMH, Terry Durack.
“Writing 500 restaurant profiles really helped highlight the emerging trends and new foodie travel destinations, like Perth’s CBD suddenly open for dining business, and regional cities such as Geelong in Victoria emerging with multiple entries in the list” says fellow co-director and food writer, Jill Dupleix. “It’s like a bucket list for foodies.”
The Australia’s Top Restaurants program was first launched last year, and is the only national restaurant awards program determined by industry peers.
The program was taken out by Sydney fine diner Sepia last year, with chef Martin Benn also being named Top Chef.
This year, more than 100 new entries have been added, forming part of the Top 500 – a list of new restaurants, bars and bistros now available online, and from which the Top 100 will be selected.
The Top 100 will be announced at a Gala Awards Ceremony at The Star Event Centre in Sydney on Monday May 2. For more information and to view the full list of Australia’s Top 500 restaurants, click here.
